JMB’s erotic painting can be considered as research on érotisme sacré. The artist investigates the female and male archetype in its human, conceptual and mystical forms. Following a Tantric reading, the sexual subject does not only appear in form, but reveals its ancient descent from Ingam and Yoni in a continuous dialogue between the human and the divine, between the feminine and the masculine. Another possible decoding refers us back to the Jewish Kabbalah. Love for Jean-Marie Barotte is “the secret of secrets”, and only when the order between the feminine and the masculine is re-established is balance restored. It is not just about man and woman, but about the very structure of the universe that pervades everything.
